My cousin Milagros Pollock has always been more like a sister to me. We have been there for each other in good times & in trying times. Currently she is going through one such trying time.
Over the summer, Milly was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. It was a blindsiding diagnosis in a lot of ways, as there is no history of breast cancer in our family. Cancer can also just come out of nowhere. Cancer does not discriminate.
There have been several blessings along this whole cancer route. By the grace of God, Milly lives in an area that has a great network for specialty healthcare to low-income families called We Care Network. Milly's initial tests & current chemotherapy & cancer drug infusions have all been covered by this network.
There have also been some more blows. As it stands, Milly's cancer is not curable & she will be on cancer drugs for the rest of her life. Those drugs will not be covered, & costs are yet unknown to the Pollocks.
Another blessing is that her husband Joel's job has been extremely flexible with him taking time off to be with Milly & care for her & their 4 children as needed. Milly is most of the way done with her chemotherapy. She is resilient, but chemo's toll on the body is no joke. She is dealing with a whole host of symptoms & side effects. Thankfully she has the support of her in-laws, her church, & many friends who have provided meals, childcare, and many prayers.
The time off that Joel is taking is unpaid. Caring for Milly is his top priority, but there are still bills to be paid & 6 people to feed. Once Milly is no longer covered by the We Care Network, medical bills will be added to that burden.
The last thing the Pollocks need right now is stress about finances. This is where we come in. I created this GoFundMe to raise money for the Pollocks so that all of their energy can go towards getting Milly though chemo, recovered from chemo, & adjusted to what life will be like with chronic cancer. Let's be their village. Let's be the hands & feet. If you're able, your monetary donation will go a long way to alleviate the financial stress. If you would, would you please also pray for Milly, Joel, Joelito, Sofiarose, Percy, & Declan? If you can, can you please share this fundraiser with others on Facebook, or via text & email?
Milly's last chemo session is the week after Thanksgiving. I will update as I get more information from Milly as to what life will be like after that.
