Team Melissa: Nobody Fights Alone
Donation protected
As we approach this season of Thanksgiving and we reflect upon all of our blessings, I reach out to you on behalf of a beloved friend who needs our help.
So many of you already know Melissa Stampoulos. For those of you that don’t know her, trust me when I tell you, Melissa is extraordinary. Melissa has worked in the kitchen at Far Brook School since March 6, 2000, preparing delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade chocolate chip banana bread for all 4 of my girls and each and every one of their classmates. She has made countless lunches for the teachers who work tirelessly to care for our children. I have always been struck by the constant smile on Melissa’s face, even when a swarm of 4-year-olds are pouring flour all over her kitchen during a Nursery baking project. My girls speak of trying to sneak into her kitchen between classes to get a homemade treat from her and hear a moment of her favorite James Taylor song playing on the speakers. Melissa has always made her Far Brook kitchen a safe escape for students and teachers – a moment of home during the hustle and bustle of the busy school day.
During the time that Bob was so sick and the Miller home front was, shall we say, chaotic, Melissa made sure my girls had a full meal and a special treat. She would whip up something warm and wonderful and sneak cookies into their classrooms. Melissa always had something special for every Far Brook student whenever a lunch was left at home. Melissa has helped ALL of our children --- but now she needs our help.
Melissa has been battling ovarian cancer since 2012. As so many people know, cancer is financially devastating to a family. The medicines, bills, therapies – these expenses can wipe out a family’s savings. Melissa, her husband, Jimmy, and their daughter, Mary have quietly waged an extraordinary battle against this horrible disease. They have never asked for help, but I know that we can alleviate some of the pressure they are feeling.
I ask all of you who know Melissa, or perhaps don’t know her personally but will take my word that she would do anything for you if you were in need, to give any amount of money to help her as she continues her fight. We have set a goal of raising $10,000 to help Melissa with the mounting expenses during her ongoing treatments – including acupuncture and massage therapy that doctors have recommended to alleviate some of the excruciating pain that Melissa has been experiencing. In addition to the money raised, Melissa will know of all of those who love her and her family and are cheering her on to victory!
Thank you all for considering a donation to Melissa and the Stampoulos family.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Grace Miller
