What if this was You? What if this was YOUR family and loved ones and this was your daily reality?
What happens when you are a wife and mother, worked all your adult life, are in your late 40’s and you suffered your second stroke (after several undiagnosed strokes in between). A stroke which required emergency surgery, put you out of work for almost 4 months, used up all your savings, sick leave, vacation, FMLA and short term disability coverage?
Thankfully you have a truly loving and understanding boss and coworkers who are keeping your job open and making sure the family can maintain their medical coverage. But what happens when you return to work on a reduced schedule until March because you need another Cardiac operation, an Ablation to your Atrium to prevent the frequent bouts you have of Atrial Fibrilation? What if you suffer seizures in your sleep, have trouble doing many of the things you once did with ease, and have 30% vision loss and 30% hearing loss? What if having this second heart surgery sooner would possibly/probably kill you because your body and heart need time to respond to the first heart surgery and stroke?
What if your husband at 49 is a fit and loving partner, son and father has been a lifelong insulin dependent diabetic since age 8, on an insulin pump. What if he has suffered catastrophic retinopathy due to complications of his extremely difficult to control diabetes, resulting in impaired vision and the inability to drive? What if he has had 5 major eye surgeries in less than 18 months? What if his hospitalizations while going into Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) 3 times in the last 20 months nearly killed him with his wife counseled to prepare to say goodbye and he truly almost didn’t make it. What if he has missed an extrodinary amount of work time as a self employed business owner because of both of their hospitalizations.
What happens when your husbands cost of insulin, even with insurance, has skyrocketed to $1300 monthly and without in two days he would suffer full system failure and die? What if you already sold both of your trucks, your jewelry (other than your wedding bands) and every other thing of value that wasn’t nailed down and moved to a much smaller, lower rent home?
What if you are already helping care for for your aging Mom suffering from dementia and you used to be able to watch her more but are now leaning on other family members to bridge the gaps? What if your father has severe cardiac issues of his own and nearly died a half dozen times in the last ten years? What if you have a young teen age son and you worry everyday how to keep it together so he leads a full life.
What if all the money you had left in the bank from your lifetime as a full time couple at the start of the year, after depleting your life savings in the previous two years, was now gone.? What if you have already leaned on loads of help from siblings and others financially, spiritually and in physical assistance in this time of true crisis? What if your bank account was truly down to $20? What if your brother brought you Thanksgiving dinner, your friends dropped off meals, others drive, others pick up your son for a sleepover so you can sleep.. what if all this caused you to lose 40 pounds - Just from stress?
We are Michelle and Will. This is our reality. We our proud dedicated people who have been utterly wiped out by unrelenting medical crises in the last year and a half. The last thing we ever pictured was opening up and sharing our most private struggles with friends and strangers. But at this point we need help. We need help, prayers, and hugs. We need the incredible gift of of a financial intervention by asking you to donate to donate to our medical recovery. The next four months are critical. Our 2019 family deductible of $9700 resets on 1/2019. Wills insulin alone is $1300 a month. Michelle’s heart surgery will be another outlay. There are essential expenses (car insurance and gas.... a good friend is donating a car rather than trading it in ❤️). FMLA is now exhausted. Michelle will be missing a month of work in March for the heart surgery. The insurance declined payment for an ultrasound echocardiogram and MRI as medically unnecessary, despite the fact they are required by her surgeons prior to her procedure. Michelle’s recent mammogram revealed tissues will require a biopsy and additional treatments. Medications essential for her life and health cannot be renewed due to expense.
Rent is monthly $1600 and other utilities equals $3500 monthly
They have been been blessed with Shipt deliveries and gift cards. Will and Michelle have 18 Doctors to regularly see and over 22 prescriptions.
How much would help?
As a start the $9,700 through January so Will doesn’t die from not being able to get his insulin and Michelle can get her heart medications. Help crawling out the debt this caused once the money ran out from savings would would be necessary to prepare Michelle’s next surgery. And help make sure sure there is enough for Wills next eye surgery and monthly eye injections.
How much is this all together?
$30,000 honestly is on the low end. Many factors deepen this needed money . But this crisis is a big one. The short term goal is the $9700 and the goal between now and of the year before January puts at deadly risk. The next $10,000 is needed by the end of January. February heading into March brings the remaining $10,000 into need. All of us realize this is a huge number. We wouldn’t ask if there was any other way to dig out from this. We have sold literally everything. You are truly saving lives with a donation.
Some of you are able to help by donating. Some of you are up against crises yourselves. The biggest help from each of you would be sharing this and your personal story of your connection to us by asking asking others you know and able to help to support this GoFundMe. So whatever that means... Please. Do your best and pray we can all take a deep breath and leave the wreackage of 2017 and 2018 behind, heal, recover and both go back to work full time and make 2019 a healthy and happy life back on track. We have often helped others and enjoy doing nothing as much as that, We WILL pay this forward! Thank you so much. May God Bless you and and your loved ones in this holiday season .
