Team Maddie- Take Two!

Friday, April 11, 2025 our biggest fear became reality. At age 23, after seven years since her original diagnosis and 5 years cancer free, Maddie wasn’t feeling well so she went to the doctor and had labs done. At 8pm that evening the call came in that she had to get to the hospital immediately, her leukemia had returned. Bags were packed and off to Children’s Hospital we went. The next few days included labs, transfusions, bone marrow biopsy, lumbar punctures, scans, echocardiogram, and picc lines were placed to deliver chemotherapy . These tests determined that it was in fact again Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia but this time it had spread into her cerebral spinal fluid (the fluid that surrounds the spine and the brain). Treatment this time will include induction chemotherapy into both her picc line and directly into the cerebral spinal fluid. The number of cycles of chemotherapy needed until the leukemia is no longer detected is not known. She will then need a stem cell transplant. The chemo minimum is 30 days but could go as long as required to receive remission. Then the transplant requires over a month in the hospital followed by approximately 9 months at home in isolation.

We have received so many messages and calls of people asking what they can do. Unfortunately due to protocols, flowers aren’t allowed and some specific foods need to be avoided. Therefore, we chose this platform for those that would like to donate towards medical bills and anything else Maddie may need during this time. As always, your well wishes and prayers are first and foremost!

We couldn’t get through this without our friends and family. We are very early in this process and your calls and messages have meant the world. To those that have come and visited with Maddie or spent the night, it all has lifted her spirits and kept us all going. She has a very long road ahead of her but we know she will do great!
