This page is set up by friends of Wayne and Melba Brown to help with medical expenses for Macy Ray. As many of you know, their precious daughter, Macy Ray, was diagnosed with a rare disease called Nephrotic Syndrome in July 2015.
Nephrotic Syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to excrete too much protein in your urine. Nephrotic syndrome causes swelling (edema), and increases the risk of other health problems.
Macy Ray has gone through so much medically since being diagnosed. One of her treatments for the Nephrotic Syndrome was a chemo which put her in remission, and she has stayed in remission. Unfortunately, she has been sick off and on lately, and the doctors couldn't pinpoint the issue.
Last Thursday, on March 25, Macy Ray became very ill in a very short amount of time. That evening she was transferred by ambulance during a tornado storm from TRMC to Atlanta (CHOA) because tests showed she was sepsis (infection in the blood). It was a very scary trip and several days in the hospital with professionals working together to figure out what was going on with Macy Ray and how to treat her. Not to complicate it too much; she basically does not have an immune system. Her body can not fight infections all due to the chemo that put her in remission with her kidney disease. The chemo killed off the B cells in her body. Even though some have grown back, they have simply stopped producing immunoglobulins, totally wiping out her immune system. She will have IV infusions every four weeks where she will travel to Atlanta to help boost her immune system.
Macy Ray was released from the hospital Tuesday evening. She was feeling much better. After a night at home, she began having excruciating headaches and her fever came back. Last night, TRMC had to transfer her back to Atlanta quick. Her levels showed that the infection in her blood was coming back with a vengence. Melba and Wayne had to send their baby off for a medic plane ride to Atlanta as there wasn't room for either one of them to go. She made it safely and Melba and Wayne are now there with her. They are diligently running tests and more tests to treat this sweet girl.
First, we are asking for lots of prayers!! This will be an ongoing battle for Macy Ray and her family. Her parents have had to miss work so they can be with her during treatment and the medical bills (especially the trips by ambulance & plane), gas & accomodations keep adding up. Please give what you feel in your heart to give. Every little bit helps. The family appreciates all the prayers, calls, texts and messages. Keep the prayers coming. This girl is the strongest little fighter with the biggest smile and heart! We love you, Macy Ray!!
