To our Dear Friends, Family, Industry Community and Kind Strangers,

We are reaching out to you about our beloved Andrew Mackay - a much loved 38-year-old actor and athlete, who is courageously battling Stage 4 cancer with bravery and optimism, and yet he is still more concerned about those he loves.

Andrew's passion for life and his incredible talent and commitment have always inspired those around him, but now he faces the toughest challenge of his life. For those of you who know Andrew is to genuinely love him. He is truly one of the most loyal and compassionate humans we have ever met.

What a year it has been… In October, Andrew married the love of his life, Sarah. In May, he sustained a baseball injury that resulted in severe back pain which worsened for four months. Despite numerous appointments with doctors and health specialists, it remained undiagnosed and untreated.

Cut to: August 27, 2024…

Andrew Uber’s himself to Emergency at Michael Garron Hospital because he had lost feeling in his lower body.

The excellent doctor diagnosed him and sent him to Sunnybrook Hospital for Emergency Spinal Surgery with a 50/50 chance to ever walk again.

Turns out Andrew was walking around with a broken vertebrae which was pushing on his spinal cord, because there was a tumour on his spine! So they removed the tumour and the vertebrae, and he now has 10 steel pins, in his spine and a steel cage where his T3 vertebrae used to be. He started walking just days after surgery, SIX WEEKS earlier than they had anticipated, and is home resting and healing and preparing to begin treatment, and kick this cancer’s butt..

Together, they have faced this unexpected news with an extraordinary amount of strength and grace. Sarah has become Andrew's rock, by his side, caring for him and maintaining communication with friends and family all the while keeping his spirits up as she does so well. Unfortunately, as we know in these situations, it is very difficult to face the financial burden of hospitalization and the reality of not being able to work, and in this case it could be quite a while.

Together, we are raising funds to help cover the costs of Andrew, Sarah & Riley’s daily living expenses, and any additional care Andrew may need. Your loving support will provide much-needed relief and allow Andrew and Sarah to focus on what truly matters—his recovery.
