Meet Liam — our brave, hockey-loving 9-year-old son.

We are Jonathan and Wendy Lescarbeau, and we want to share Liam’s story.

From the age of just 4 years old, Liam has lived and breathed hockey. He played on both split and youth hockey teams, attended camps during every school break, and never missed a chance to be on the ice. Inspired by watching his older brother, Liam’s love for the game became a huge part of who he is. At age 7, he also began Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, quickly showing the same determination and competitive spirit, even competing in his first tournament at 8 years old.

Just three days after celebrating his 9th birthday, our world changed forever.

Liam was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

In the middle of this devastating news, Liam’s first question was whether he would still be able to play on the new hockey team he had worked so hard to make. Telling him that he would have to step away from the sport he loves for at least a year was absolutely heartbreaking.

Thankfully, Liam’s cancer was caught early, but his fight is far from over. His treatment plan will last approximately 3.5 to 4 years, with the first 6 months being the most aggressive and demanding.

For the first several months, Liam requires daily chemotherapy treatments, which means traveling 1 hour and 20 minutes each way, every single day. Between treatment co-pays, specialist visits, medications, fuel costs, and the financial strain of Wendy needing to stay home full-time to care for Liam, our family is facing overwhelming emotional and financial challenges. Jonathan will also eventually exhaust his available leave, further impacting our household income.
