As you may or may not know our Lenny, who is now 9 years of age, was diagnosed with stage 3 T-cell non hodgkins lymphoma on the 27/4/18, which is a type of Leukaemia that attacks the lymph nodes. Lenny had cancerous tumours on each side of his neck, a mass on his chest and some on his kidneys. Life completely changed for the 3 of us from that day.
Lenny has just finished the intense stage of the 3 years of Chemotherapy at GOSH where he underwent intensive treatment for the first 7 months as an outpatient. Lenny is now into a period of what they call maintenance which we are told will last for just over 2 and half years of less intensive chemotherapy. This will be a long journey for Lenny, as well as Jill and I.
Lenny has returned to school for 2 hours a day, although we are hoping this to be increased to full time over the coming months.
Let me tell you a bit about Lenny. The only thing that keeps Lenny still and quiet is his beloved Xbox! Lenny loves nothing more than a sleepover with his cousins or at a friend’s, play dates, days out, sports camps, just anything which means fun, although a lot of these activities have been few and far between since diagnoses. He’s a very loving boy who still sleeps with his ‘cuggles’ and ted and will still climb up onto either mine or Jill’s lap for kisses and a cuggle, showering you with love but as long as there’s no one about to see!
He’s our blonde hair, blue eyed, handsome head strong little boy, whose always on the lookout for mischief and we couldn’t be prouder of how he has coped with battling this horrible disease since April 2018.
This will be a tough road ahead for Lenny as well as his Jill and I but we are staying positive for the long road ahead.
The present situation with Lenny is that he is in remission at this time and we are hopeful for the long road ahead.
Since diagnoses and still ongoing, a number of charities have been instrumental in helping us with raising Lenny’s spirit’s, assisting us as a family with support during this dark period in our lives from providing gifts for Lenny and us as a family, short breaks, accommodation and even Santa visiting our home at Christmas time!!. Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) have been absolutely amazing, the Nurses, Doctors and Consultants provide first class care with a sense of feeling safe in their hands. I now feel it’s time that I gave something back to these charities who have given us, as a family, a boost raising our spirit’s.
I have entered the Brighton Marathon with my good old school and close family friend George Gager to raise as much money as we can to give something back to the charities that helped us in order that they can continue in their amazing work for other families in the same situation as mine. George and I are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the following charities:
1. Great Ormond Street - https://www.gosh.nhs.uk/
2. Indie Rose Trust - http://www.indeerosetrust.org/
3. Little Haven Hospice - https://www.havenshospices.org.uk/
4. Gold Geese - https://www.goldgeese.org/
5. Molly Olly - https://www.mollyolly.co.uk/
Our place in the Brighton Marathon is guaranteed on the basis that we raise £500 each for GOSH and anything above will be split between the remaining charities. Every charity listed has done so much for Lenny so please dig deep everyone!
Thanks in advance for your contribution to these causes that means so much to me.
