Kristin has lupus. This causes her inflammation and pain in every part of her body. It’s an autoimmune disease which means her healthy parts of her body are also fighting her. Kristin is also living with scleroderma. She suffers from rashes, joint pain, swelling, fatigue, peeling skin, mouth sores, severe hair loss, inflammation in her heart, lungs, spleen, and liver as well as low platelets. Her prednisone, injections of B12 and numerous other medications are supposed to be helping. Imagine not only being sick but having several scary and lifelong diagnosis and the treatment is not only terrifying and painful but you can’t afford it. Imagine not fighting to survive to see your kids grow up but fighting for just the CHANCE to survive to see them become all they are destined for. To know that everyday you have to be strong for them. They are what matters.
Kristin is a fighter. She is more than her sickness. She is beautiful, kind, funny and fiercely loyal. She loves her family so very much and being a great mom is her priority. She faces her days with tenacity and determination. I met Kristin 20 years ago and if there is anything I know to be true… it is that my beautiful, strong and determined friend is more of those things now than ever before. She has a smile that would light up any room she walks into and I am grateful to call her my friend.
This illness has destroyed my friends everyday life. She is facing it head on but she cannot do it alone. She needs help. This is more tense because of lack of financial help for treatments. Her medical bills are outrageous. The treatments are mind blowingly expensive. Doctors say that a chemotherapy treatment will help. The doctors have given an estimate of around $24,000 for her treatment. She will need 6k for initial payment.
We are asking for you help on behalf of Kristin, her family and her children to show them that there are people out there willing to step up and help out not only those we know but those we don’t know. It defines us as humans to show empathy where needed most. I say this with every fiber of my being… Kristin deserves a chance to get better and live her life with the ability to see beauty. The chance to see her kids dream big and become wonderful humans.
Kristin is a mom above all else. Her kids love her so much and they are scared everyday. They are afraid when they leave that mom might not be there when they get back. This is their life. They are children worried every single day that they are going to lose the most important person in their life.
Her daughter Khloe said it best “ There are a lot of different ways to get to know God. I talk to him about how sad and upset I am. I tell him how angry I am that my mom is sick and ask him for ways to help me deal with it a little better. I talk to him everyday and ask for him to watch over my sister and to help her understand that she has to go to school and not give my mother a hard time. I feel like this helps me understand God better because so far my sister has been sad about leaving my mother.”
