As most of you know through following the Team Jeff Facebook group, Jeff was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma which is an aggressive form of cancer that has spread throughout his body. Most recently he went through brain surgery to remove a tumor and now is facing long hours of innovative immunotherapy to hopefully reduce the other tumors throughout the rest of his body. He underwent baseline tests on 8/10 and on 8/16 will face his first of many infusions lasting up to 4.5 hours.
With all of that said, even though Jeff has great insurance through Macy's, the out-of-pocket financial burden associated with all of these treatments is still significant, up to $2,000 per treatment that insurance will not cover. Many people have asked what they can do to help Jeff (aside from the much-appreciated prayers, positive thoughts, support and meals). This is the perfect opportunity for Team Jeff to help him so that he has one less burden to face while focusing on his treatments and not having the financial side of this weighing on his mind.
Jeff being Jeff, his only stipulation is that he wants to give back in some way. Therefore, 20% of all funds raised will be donated to The Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City to assist families of children facing battles with cancer and other illnesses. Oddly enough last fall Jeff and his district team volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and he has talked to me several times about the impact it had on him and those of you who know me know I have volunteered my time there for many years. It's a great cause and provides families of patients (inpatient and outpatient) with shelter, meals, transportation and activities in a caring family environment.
You don't have to know Jeff to give or volunteer your time to positively impact the lives of families devastated by this disease. Share this with your friends and family and let's all make a difference in Jeff's life, to include his family and the families of the children that have been impacted without rhyme or reason. Let's show Jeff, his family, friends, co-workers and our communities what Team Jeff is really all about!
