On August 16th 2023 My Mom Janice Cosme was diagnosed with rare salivary gland cancer. There it was the big “C” . I looked over at my mom and I could see the tears in her eyes. As scared as we felt my brother and I did not cry at all. Instead we bombarded the physicians with questions and tried our best to make mom feel like she had the best team beside her . The surgeon said it is treatable and curable . The plan included removal of the tongue , reconstruction of the tongue , removal of the lymph nodes , a tracheotomy followed by radiation and

chemotherapy. She would also have to learn how to eat, drink and speak again .

After this news I wanted my mom to go for a second opinion. Nothing wrong with another professional opinion. My mom declined and said she was happy with her team. It was just last week that my mom sends me a screen shot of what the surgery would be from her my chart portal. As I read it I wasn’t familiar with the terminology but what caught my eye was the signature of the physician. I called up my mom and said it’s her ! Dr. L. Moses! She’s the doctor I wanted you to see for a second opinion !! What are the odds of that ?? After that I just had a very positive outlook on her journey. The best medical team , love . Support and a VILLAGE behind her ! Such a blessing!
