This is the season for giving and a young lady from Russell, KS, Jaide, needs our help now more than ever. Just before Halloween this year, sweet and young Jaide Lawson woke up one morning with significant swelling in her right leg and was unable to put weight on nor walk on her leg. Jaide’s mom, Amy, took her to see a doctor for what she thought was a blood clot. After many blood tests, CAT scans, MRI’s, and X-Rays, Jaide and Amy found themselves at KU Cancer Center for what Amy referred to as “Biopsy Day”. This was November 19, 2019. On November 25, 2019, the family got the call no parent ever wants to receive; Jaide has Ewing Sarcoma Cancer and needed to start chemotherapy treatments as soon as possible.
Jaide is a senior in high school this year and up until the end of October, she was an active percussionist in her High School band, loves her Art classes and in fact, served as a Teacher’s Aide. Jaide was also a member of National Honor Society her junior year. At home, Jaide loves playing video games and worked part-time at A & W Restaurant. Jaide has 3 younger brothers, Aiden (a sophomore), Otto (a 7th grader) and Leland (a 2nd grader). Her biggest supporters are her parents, Amy and Brent Sievert.
Instead of being able to enjoy being a teenager and hanging out with her friends, Jaide will be undergoing nine months of chemotherapy and surgery, followed by more chemotherapy and then radiation. Jaide will be receiving treatments at Children’s Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City.
Ewing Sarcoma Cancer is a fast-growing cancer that started in Jaide’s right leg and has quickly progressed into her lungs and chest. The family will be making countless trips to KC in the next nine months and every little bit will help ease the financial burden as Jaide fights her fight. A fund has been set-up for donations: Team Jaide at Southwind Bank, 436 N. Main Street, Russell, KS., 67665.
Please keep Jaide and her family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.
