Jabberwock History:
"Jabberwock" represents a Cotillion program of elegance and entertainment that showcases the gifts and talents of the young women who participate. In an interpretation of the immortal classic, “Alice in Wonderland,” Lewis Carroll created the delightful character “Jabberwock,” who summoned all of the creatures in the kingdom to perform a Cotillion event. The word “Jabberwock” has evolved in its symbolism over the past ninety-five years into a more diverse program that continues to raise funds for scholarships and other programs.
Jabberwock was introduced in the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter in 1983. However, it was not until June 1, 1985, that the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter sponsored its first
Jabberwock, “Dreamer of the Dream.” It became an annual event in 1989. It is now sponsored bi-annually.
The young lady raising the highest amount of money is crowned “Miss
Jabberwock.” Miss Jabberwock receives a certain percentage of net funds she and her team raise. For Brooklyn Alumnae, it has become one of the primary sources of fundraising for scholarships and special community projects.
