On December 23, 2019, our family got terrible news that quickly turned into a horrible nightmare. Our beautiful, outgoing and active niece Jada was diagnosed with leukemia. AML to be exact. What is AML? Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a blood cancer that attacks your healthy bone marrow and most times requires a bone marrow transplant. What started as a routine blood test to check for any abnormalities after feeling sick, weak and battling a fever,Jada’s results came back with the harrowing results that no parent wants to ever see or hear. At only 14 yrs old, Jada had to face the unknown and uncertainty of her young thriving life. Something that no child should ever face. Not to mention my sister. If you know my sister Liz, she’s one of the strongest women I’ve ever met. Nothing ever gets her down or breaks her spirit. This absolutely broke her and changed her life in a blink of a second. Both her parents were left devastated. Needless to say, what should’ve been the start to a happy Christmas for us all, quickly turned into something you think would never happen to you or a loved one. Especially someone so young and healthy.

Through it all, Jada  has stayed positive and has turned into a warrior. No matter what she’s faced with, Jada sees the positive and has overcome so much these past few months. She’s battled 2 rounds of chemo, countless blood transfusions and biopsies. She’s been poked and pulled any which way and sadly lost her hair and is missing most of her 8th grade year at school. She’s endured so many days and weeks of complete emotional and physical pain. Her Life has definitely changed.  She has her good days, bad days and days when she wishes this could all just be a bad dream. As of right now, Jada is on her way to remission. Her last treatment was successful in removing a great amount of her leukemia, leaving her at only 5%. Jada is currently undergoing another round of chemo in hopes of bringing her down to 1%.  The next phase is to have a bone marrow transplant in the coming months.  By the grace of god, her oldest brother is a perfect match and will be donating his bone marrow. With so many treatments, tests, surgeries, transfusions and labs, the hospital bills are piling.  This is not something that is easy to do or that I ever imagined doing in a million years.  I only want to ease my sister’s financial burdens and focus only on Jada’s well being.  I waited so long to do this because my sister is not one to ask for help and so I will. If you can help with anything or keep her and our family in your prayers, that would mean the world. I know my niece will beat this and be back to the way she was before this horrible disease invaded her body. God has already begun his healing and everyday he shows us his unconditional love for her. Her infectious and gentle smile can cure you at your worst and that’s all I want to do for her. Thank you and God Bless.
