Meet Issabella (Bella) —my bright, beautiful, and brave two-year-old niece who has already faced more than most of us will in a lifetime.
Recently, Issabella was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer that primarily affects young children. Overnight, our family was thrust into a whirlwind of medical tests, decisions, and life-changing events. To save her life, Issabella underwent surgery to remove her eye.
Now, Issabella needs a custom prosthetic eye and special protective glasses—and because she’s growing, she will require multiple prosthetics over the years ahead. Each new stage of growth means new fittings, new prosthetics, and ongoing appointments with specialists to ensure her health and development are carefully monitored.
Her mom—a young, devoted single mother of three—is doing everything she can to keep her family afloat emotionally and financially. Despite accessing government grants to help offset costs, there are still significant uncovered expenses for long-prosthetic eyes and care, specialized eyewear, and on going medical appointments.
