Team Glitter Campaign for Maggie Larson-Arndt

Donation protected
This GoFundMe page was created in honor of our sister, Maggie Larson-Arndt, who is battling Stage IV Colon Cancer.  Our sister is 54 years of age, a mother of 5 children, stepmother to 3 amazing sons, grandmother of 2 beautiful boys, and a loving wife to Kenny, her forever McDreamy married in July 2018.   In Oct 2018, Maggie was diagnosed with Stage III-C Colon Cancer, underwent a colorectal resection and began 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy treatment which she has now affectionately coined, “glitter juice.”  In late 2019, Maggie received the news that all cancer survivors pray to hear, “you are in remission.”

In customary fashion, Maggie fought the fight not for herself this time but for those that she was blessed to encounter in her own personal journey of survival.  In March, 2019, she put together Team Glitter for the 5K run for Colorectal Colon Awareness raising funds for those in need and soon becoming a Board member for the Eastern Sierra Cancer Alliance.   Her dedication and sincerity to continue in the fight never stopped.

In July of 2020, during a scheduled routine follow-up, her doctors discovered a spot on her liver and an increased ratio in her tumor marker.  Despite the unfortunate news, Maggie’s faith, determination and will to live did not cower.   She continued diagnostic testing as prescribed.  In August, 2020, her pet scan revealed that the cancer had spread throughout her large intestines and omentum, rectum and her S2 bone (sacrum) in her lower spine.  It was at this point in time that she was put on palliative care.  The only treatment prescribed was aggressive chemotherapy for the duration as she was not a candidate for surgery or radiation at this point.

Sometimes we ponder why we experience certain struggles in our lives.  Growing up, times were not always kind and there were many struggles along the way.  As children, we have no idea what our individual destinies would be.  However, we can tell you that we knew Maggie was different somehow.  Not because of her obvious beauty but because of her incredible tenacity, zest for living, genuine love for others, and her amazing ability to create change with her off the wall humorous personality.  As kids, we had no idea where Maggie would eventually end up.  We only knew that she was destined to make a difference in this world.

Now, in the biggest struggle of her life, she continues to make an indelible mark on anyone she encounters.  Maggie is a daughter with faith and continues to embrace the path that God has put her on referring to her walk as God’s perfectly orchestrated .  Recently, we believe that God presented a possible path of alternative treatment and care by her dear friend Tina Chinzi.  This path will allow Maggie to undergo a homeopathic approach through the Forsythe Cancer Center in Reno, Nevada.  This particular program will begin with a 3 week program—a program which is not covered by insurance at a cost of $10,000 a week.

On behalf of her brothers, Tom Larson and Carlos Larson, and her sister (myself), Jamie DePauw-Hazelton, we are hoping to initially reach a $30,000 goal to offset the financial impact Maggie’s treatment will have on her family. Maggie is a self-employed Broker Associate in real estate property management and sales which most of us refer to as a “feast or famine” business.  Like most of you, we know that the cost of this treatment will quickly drain any savings one might have and preclude the ability to continue treatments if the initial 3 week period does not show favorable results.  Consequently, we are asking for any contributions no matter how small of gift to help with the costs of Maggie’s treatment at Forsythe Cancer Center.

Like many of you, we love our sister and she deserves to live beyond the palliative diagnosis given.  Maggie is well received within the community as a kind and generous community member so our hope is all of Maggie’s friends, family, clients and colleagues will help us reach this goal.  #teamglitter
