Gayland Devers, Sr. Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Our beloved Gayland Devers, Sr. passed away on Wednesday morning, November 20, 2019, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
In November 2017, Gayland was diagnosed with bladder cancer. After chemotherapy, a team of doctors at City of Hope determined that because of the aggressive type of cancer, it was best to remove his bladder and re-create a bladder called a neobladder, a relatively new procedure. After a month in the hospital and a lengthy recovery, Gayland rebounded and benefited from his new bladder.
Unfortunately, in February 2019, the cancer metastasized to his brain which required brain surgery and radiation. Once again, Gayland made an amazing recovery. Then in August 2019, yet another set back came when cancer was found on his spine, causing him to become paralyzed from the waist down. Gayland endured more radiation to relieve pressure from his spine, spending many more days in and out of the hospital.
After a month's stay in the hospital, doctors said there was nothing more medically that could be done. Gayland continued to fight the battle at home with his family by his side. Throughout the entire ordeal, he maintained a positive attitude without ever complaining. Gayland's big smile, courageous attitude, and beautiful spirit will live on.
All funds collected will go directly towards an overwhelming accumulation of medical bills, and the memorial and celebration of life services.
Thank you in advance for your donations and continued support.
