Louise Gash suffered a significant stroke on December 11th. She spent 11 days in the ICU which included a procedure to remove part of her skull to allow her brain to safely swell and not cause more damage. After 11 days in the ICU, Louise was transferred to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital where she underwent extensive therapy for several weeks. Louise returned home with her family on January 20th. While this homecoming is very exciting, it brings other challenges. Louise’s hard work resulted in a lot of progress over the last month, but she still has a very long road ahead to maximize her recovery. For the foreseeable future, she will require full time assistance throughout the day and night. Louise’s road to recovery will include an additional surgical procedure, speech, occupational and physical therapy, modifications to the home and other care needs. Unfortunately, many of these needs are not covered by insurance, but if provided with access to the needed resources, we are confident Louise will continue to improve. The Gash family is so thankful for the outpouring of love and support during the past 6 weeks. We want to continue to show our support by setting up a GoFundMe to directly benefit Louise during her journey. Please join us by donating to the Team Gash GoFundMe page.
