On August 29, 2019, my best friend Sarah Guidotti was diagnosed with a form of head and neck cancer. A lump she had removed from her neck was found to be mucoepidermoid carcinoma. During the week of September 9th, Sarah traveled to the Mayo Clinic to seek additional opinions on treatment. During this visit, another malignant tumor was found on her tongue base. Surgery to remove the newly discovered tumor and surrounding lymph nodes was immediately scheduled for Thursday, September 19. Sarah will also have to undergo radiation following her surgery. The amount of after care is unknown at this time but will all take place at the Mayo Clinic. Updates will be made as her fight continues.
Sarah, and her husband Marco, are both high school teachers in Chassell, Michigan. They are well loved by all of their students and have taken on many extra roles at the school. Sarah teaches the Yearbook Class and is the Student Council advisor. Marco is the school's Athletic Director and is the head coach of the Cross Country team.
Sarah and Marco have two amazing sons, Dane and Kai. Dane is five and just started Kindergarten this fall. He loves sports and going to cross country practice with his Dad. Kai is two and loves looking up to his big brother and cuddling with his Mom and Dad.
Sarah and Marco are two of the most generous and loving people I know. Their positivity, kindness, and passion are contagious. They have touched the lives of hundreds of students, coworkers, friends and family members. All who know them would agree that they are lucky to have them in their life.
With the uncertainty of how long Sarah's fight will continue, the cost of travel, lodging, childcare, food, and day-to-day living are daunting. I know in my heart that Sarah and Marco would help anyone in this situation. It is our turn to show them the support that they would give to others. <3 TEAM G STRONG <3
