Hi Everyone!

My name is Empress Preston, but I like to go by Emmie. I’m 8 years old, and I’m so excited to share that this will be my very first competition season with the Xcel Silver Team!

I took my first gymnastics class when I was just 3 years old, and now it’s finally my time to shine. Mom says I used to do handstands in place of walking and flips in place of running—it seems like gymnastics has always been a part of me.

I’ve been training hard, currently practicing 6 hours a week, and I love every minute of it. My inspiration started when I first watched The Gabby Douglas Story. I was amazed by her strength and resilience, and ever since then, I’ve wanted to follow in her footsteps. My favorite song from the movie is “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys.

This season is such a big opportunity, but it also comes with expenses. My competition costs are about $1,800, and that doesn’t include my extra training hours or gear. Over the next 5 months, I’ll be traveling to different meets (including one at the beach—which I’m super excited about!).
