For those of us who are lucky enough to know Miss Becky Rayfield, we know how much her dogs mean to her. She has been a loving dog-mom to 8-year-old German Shepherd, Argus, and recently added a new addition to her fur family this past June, another German Shepherd puppy, Drogo.
On Saturday, September 14th, Becky dropped off 6-month-old Drogo for boarding at her trusted daycare while she visited her close friends in Texas. That Tuesday, Becky received a call no pet owner wants to receive.
Drogo was lethargic and would not eat or come out of his kennel. He was immediately taken to his regular veterinarian where his diagnosis was pneumonia. He was then treated with intravenous antibiotics and fluids, but by Thursday, the pneumonia had worsened significantly.
Drogo was transferred to an emergency facility for further diagnosis, where the prognosis was dire. The doctors at the facility inserted tubes into Drogo's chest cavity where they withdrew 1300 mL of fluid and 670 mL of air. Luckily, Becky was able to find a flight home to be with her fur-baby in his time of need.
On Friday, the veterinarian decided surgery was necessary to find the cause of Drogo's affliction and remove it. Becky picked up Drogo from the emergency facility and drove 2 hours to the only surgeon available, in Northern Virginia.
During the procedure, the surgeon was able to remove the damaged part of Drogo's left lung and they flushed out his chest cavity as much as possible, as well as put in another large chest tube to drain fluid and air. Drogo is now out of surgery and recovering, but continued prayers are still needed that his body responds well to the antibiotics and post-op treatment.
The love and dedication Becky shows to her fur babies - and all animals - is unmatched, and a quality to be admired. But all of Drogo's tests, x-rays, treatments, and surgery, have racked up quite the bill.
It is our mission to take care of Becky the way she cares for her pets and others. I am asking for donations to assist in paying Drogo's veterinary bills so hopefully Becky can have one less thing to worry about, and focus on healing her pup. Any friend of Becky's knows she will give the shirt off her back to help someone in need, but she is the one who could really use some help right now. Please consider contributing to this fund to lend a hand for our dear friend, Becky, and her sweet puppy Drogo. Everything counts.
