Discharge Danny! Get Well Soon

My name is Dannie Heisler and I am setting up this GoFundMe account for my dear friends Danny & Darcy Gil <3

My husband Will and I met Danny & Darcy on our first trip together years ago on a Norwegian Cruise Line vacation! It was late in the evening, and I of course was hungry so Will and I made our way over to one of the late night snack bars on the cruise ship. We got ourselves some yummy foods, then proceeded to find a spot to sit down - of course I wanted to talk with other people, so I spotted Danny & Darcy and we wandered over there to ask if we could join them. Soon after we sat down, introduced ourselves, and started chatting away, Danny came to realize there was some food on his plate he could not eat. He seemed embarrassed as we had just met them, but I asked him what was wrong and if he had an allergy. Danny looked at me and said, "I have this thing called Crohn's Disease..." and I stopped him, let out my hand to high five him and said.. "BRO, ME TOO!" and let's just say we've all been great friends since! We stayed up past sunrise having the time of our lives together, drinking, singing, dancing, talking about life, and I can remember it just like it was yesterday. Any time we get a chance to see or talk to Danny & Darcy, it's like no time has passed and we're just a couple of good old friends catching up on life. We love them dearly <3

I am so incredibly happy that Will and I were able to visit Danny, Darcy, and even Dom this past June in Miami. Both Danny & Darcy (who is currently about 5 months pregnant) have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus.

While it has not been easy, Darcy is recovering at home with their son Dom while she is fighting off the virus. Danny has not been so lucky because with his Crohns Disease and medication he takes to keep him in remission (Humira injections), his body is severely immunocompromised - COVID has taken over and Danny is fighting for his life at Baptist Main Hospital. A few days after Danny & Darcy contracted the virus, Darcy had no choice but to drive him to the ER because he was pale, hardly able to take a single breath, and went unconscious on the drive over. Darcy had to stay back with their 2 year old son and watch the staff take him away to a COVID unit to start treatment - she was, and still is, terrified. Danny was immediately admitted, intubated, and on a ventilator in the COVID floor of the ICU. He of course had several labs and imaging done to understand more of what was happening internally, other than what is already known (he is COVID-19 positive).

As of yesterday (08/18/2021), Danny is recovering in the COVID floor out of the ICU. He is very weak and his body is still fighting at full capacity so he cannot move around much if at all most of the time.

As of today (08/19/2021), Danny has taken a small step backwards. He is going in for more diagnostic imaging of his chest to understand why his inflammation and D-dimer markers are so high. D-Dimer is one of the protein fragments produced when a blood clot gets dissolved into the body. Danny has a long road of recovery ahead, and I know both he and Darcy are so grateful to your prayers and positive messages. Please continue to send prayers for Danny to get better and to overcome this horrific battle.

Darcy is still isolating herself as she is still infected and has no way of receiving income as family is unable to help watch Dom; she cannot risk spreading this virus to her family or friends. Danny was supposed to start a new job, but of course his health comes first and this is the family's main focus right now.

Darcy did not ask me to star this GoFundMe, but I am personally asking you to consider helping this lovely family, every penny, every dollar, every meal will help them cover the following expenses:

• Medical Insurance: Danny does NOT have medical insurance as he was in between jobs when he got sick. These funds will mostly go towards continual coverage for Danny while he is still receving care in the hospital, but also several therapists he will be working with once he defeats this virus and gets to a care facility or even better, home.
• Rent: Darcy has ZERO income right now and they were in process of receiving and approval letter for a 2 bedroom apartment (moving out of their studio). In order to continue moving forward with that, they need to secure 1st months rent, last months rent, and a deposit, which totals to $4,800.00.  In addition to this, as their family is growing and moving out of a small studio, they will need to purchase furniture little by little and likely hire movers as Darcy cannot lift anything heavy (or slightly) during her pregnancy.
• Food/Easy Meals: The further along in Darcy's pregnancy, the harder is becomes for her to care for Dom on her own, while she's also recovering, and prepare balanced meals for her family. Once Danny is recovering at home, she will continue to need help with coverage of food for meals. Money is very tight right now for daily expenses, let alone the added expenses listed above. If you can find it in your heart to please HELP GET DANNY DISCHARGED AND HOME, every penny will help Darcy, Dom, & Danny throughout his time being sick and during his road of recovery. I hope that money is the last thing this family has to worry about because they have SO much on their plate. Please keep praying and I will continue to post updates on Danny's progress and Darcy's well being. If Darcy has any specific needs or needs that shift, I will let everyone know here.
