On October 27, 2018, our son David Richards, age 26 and a new father of a 3-month-old baby girl, suffered an accidental catastrophic burn injury while building a bonfire. He was airlifted to UF Health Shands Burn Center in Gainesville, FL where he remains in critical condition in the Burn Unit’s ICU. He suffered 2nd and mostly 3rd degree burns over 75% of his body. The doctors are expecting him to be in ICU for several months, possibly even a year. He has already had 6 surgeries and will have dozens more.
As with any catastrophic injury, there are going to be unforeseen costs associated with his care and recovery that his insurance will not cover. We are asking for your help to offset some of those costs. The funds collected will be used to cover medical expenses while in the hospital but also for his long-term care once out of the hospital. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
We are so thankful to those of you who are praying for David and have reached out to us regarding his progress. We would like for David to feel this love as well when he begins to feel better, so we are also asking if you would please send him a card expressing your love, prayers, and words of encouragement. David continues to be in critical condition but stable with many medical interventions in place. We are so thankful to the nurses and doctors at Shands who are working hard to give David the best round the clock care. They are an awesome group of people.
This has been a life changing event for David and our entire family, but we know God is in control. With the support of our community, family and friends, we will get through this one day at a time.
