Hi Everyone,
The unthinkable has recently happened to our closest friends and we would like to do everything we can to help them in their time of need.
We are hoping that their local town (Shaftesbury) and surrounding areas will help them too!
George, aged 38, Husband of Becky and Father of two beautiful Girls (Sofia 7 and Eliana 6) has recently been diagnosed with a grade 3 malignant brain tumour.
George was admitted to hospital 4 weeks ago. He had been suffering with severe headaches and dizziness for months which unfortunately had been misdiagnosed by the GP.
George developed double vision and decided to get his eyes checked, it was the optician who picked up on pressure being too high and could see haemorrhaging behind his eyes. The optician made an instant referral to A&E.
Following many tests and scans at Salisbury it was revealed George had a brain tumour which they suspected was around 2cm in the right frontal lobe.
After a referral to neurosurgery at Southampton hospital and further imaging, it was confirmed that the tumour was much bigger than first thought, reaching almost 10cm and spreading into the left side. Unfortunately due to the type of the tumour this is incurable.
George had brain surgery last week which removed around 50 percent of the tumour. the biopsy confirmed that George does have brain cancer and he will be starting radiotherapy/chemotherapy treatment in a few weeks.
The family are currently waiting on further test results but the best outcome is a life expectancy of up to 5 years, worst case 9-18 months.
As you can imagine this is absolutely heart-breaking for the family and the people closest to them.
The children are unaware of the full situation because as you can imagine explaining to the children Daddy is incurable is not an easy conversation to have, they are so little! They are aware Daddy has had brain surgery and is very poorly. They will be updated each step at a time. If you see the girls, PLEASE DO NOT go into detail. They are being protected and guided as much as possible.
As Becky's best friends we are reaching out. We want to do whatever we can to make this terrible situation as bearable as possible for them.
We would like to raise as much money as we can to help with Becky's time off work (loss of wages) so she can support George in everyway she can, to help with transport costs and parking for treatment and most importantly to ensure Becky and the beautiful girls are supported financially in the future as this will have a knock on effect all round.
We would also like to make the time they have left as a family as precious as we can, giving them as many family memories as possible before George becomes too unwell.
Any money raised will go to the family to support them in any way possible. As stated above it will be to help with financial costs and the future but also to give the girls some special days out with Daddy so they can have memories to treasure forever. They are so young we would like to help make the time they have left with their Daddy as special as possible.
George is originally from Greece. His older sister has recently visited and has been an incredible support to the family. As you can imagine having a huge amount of family in a different country at times like this can be very difficult. Depending on how much we can raise we would love to contribute to some of the costs in flying more family over, or depending on how well George is contributing to flying the family out to see everyone.
Any support would be appreciated more than you know. Even if you cannot donate financially we will also be collecting donations so we can try and fundraise in other ways, or even little donations to give the girls when things get tough to help them through as they will have to spend a lot of time at grandparents and friends when Daddy is in hospital. Anything to put a smile on their gorgeous faces!
We are also reaching out to local businesses - if you are also able to help out with either donations for fundraising or can help with experiences the girls can enjoy with their Daddy it would be extremely appreciated.
If you would like to help get involved with fundraising then please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please help us in any way you can to support this wonderful family. As parents ourselves we cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through and how tough the time ahead will become. We want to do everything in our power to help them get through.
We may only be a small town but let's show them what a strong and amazing community we are!
Thank you in advance for your support.
