Team Crossfit VO2 Max Regional Comp

Donation protected
The Crossfit Games is a multi-tier competition, consisting of three stages: The Open, Regionals, and the Games. The Open is an individual competition, where athletes across the globe complete a challenging workout released every week. Each registered athlete must submit their scores within a specific time domain. The scores are then ranked on a leaderboard for a given region.  From here, only the top twenty male and female competitors, and top fifteen teams (consisting of three females and three males at a CrossFit Affiliate Gym) qualify for the next stage of competition; Regionals.

The regional competition takes place over a weekend, with only the top five teams snagging a ticket to advance to the CrossFit Games. This year Regionals are being held at the Portland Expo Centre, in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Team Crossfit VO2 Max is a competitive CrossFit team from Grande Prairie, Alberta. The team has qualified for the regional level of competition several times since becoming a CrossFit Affiliate. CrossFit VO2 Max’s team finished with an impressive overall ranking of 8th out of the possible fifteen being invited to the next stage.

These impressive athletes include;

Chrisandra H.

"I'm 27 years old and I have been competing in Crossfit for just about 3 years. I am completely in love with it and treat it as a full time job for the most part! Last year in the Crossfit Open I finished 77th in Western Canada. This year I tied for 25th out of about 3,400 women. With the help of my coach Ernie S. (we started working together mid-September of 2017), and support from my friends, and boyfriend, I was able to exceed my goal of top 40 this year! When I am not training, I am a full-time realtor, and love spending time with family, friends, boyfriend, and my golden doodle, Charlie!"

Crystal S.

"I am 25, and have been doing Crossfit for about 5 years. I am a personal trainer at VO2 Max and absolutely love my job. I am a single mom to a beautiful 5-year-old girl, who is my world. When I'm not working I am spending time with my daughter and being the best mom I can be."

Kristy E.

"I am a registered nurse here in Grande Prairie. I work in ER and the cancer clinic. I completed my Masters of Nursing this year and am currently working on completing my Nurse Practitioner program. I live with my husband Matt, who is the balance to my crazy. I have been involved in sports all my life, from hockey to college soccer. I have been cross-fitting since 2012. Love everything about the sport and I love competition, it brings out the best in me. I got my very first muscle-up in competition, and I can't wait to see what happens this year at regionals!"

Kyle L.

"I am 26 and I have been Crossfitting for about 5 years now. It takes the monotony out of training and doing the same thing every day in the gym. A big thing for me is the community aspect. I found that a lot of regular gyms you just put your headphones in and try to avoid awkward eye contact with anyone, whereas at most Crossfit gyms, everyone is friendly and respectful. I have met lots of amazing people through this sport, made some very good friends, as well as it opened up opportunities for me. This year I finished with an overall placing of 52nd in Western Canada, competing against 3,500 other men. I spend most of my spare time at the gym, trying to develop as an athlete, sometimes joking that I sleep on the couch. Currently I work two jobs when I am not at the gym, as well as taking a few online courses. I was on the team last year and loved being there, I would like to know what it is like to go to the Games!"

Oleks B.

"I am 21 years old, and have been competing in Crossfit for 3 years. I played 2 years of CJFL football after high school and needed something to replace it. Crossfit did just that. With the competitive and fun environment I have been improving myself ever since. This year I placed 42 in Canada West."

Ernie S.

"I am a 31-year-old strength and conditioning coach/personal trainer. Athletic development has been a life long journey for me. Training has been a means to discovery and learning, which has in turn fueled my competitive nature to remain active as an athlete. My background in athletics is mainly in hockey, where I played up to the professional level. Crossfit has been a very challenging training equation to solve. The sport is very unique and constantly changing. When I'm not working or training, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Emily, and our son, Johnny."

Having trained together over the course of the year our communication skills have developed as well as our capacity as athletes.

Your considerate donations will be used to cover the accommodations and flights of the athletes. We ask that these donations please be made before May 15th of 2017.  We are very grateful to have this opportunity and thank you in advance for your generous donation to support our team.

If you'd like to follow our journey and watch the competition online, you will be able to view it on the Crossfit Games website, www.games.crossfit.com, onJune 2nd-5th.
