Help Team Cort fight cancer

Hi, this is Jammie Serrano and Charity King. We are the proud aunts of the beautiful but humble, Cortlyn Lux. In November of 2020 Cort was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. She underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor in February 2021. The surgery went well, the surgeon was able to remove the entire tumor, and we were optimistic her battle with cancer was over. But brain cancer is tricky, and you must keep watching it because it is impossible to remove all those tiny cancer cells with surgery. So, for the last 3 years Cort has had MRIs every 3-4 months to make sure the cancer cells were not growing again.

In February 2024, three years after surgery, the doctors told us that her cancer was back. It is still growing at a slow pace, which allowed them time to consider all their options. They have consulted with many doctors at KU Med and Mayo Clinic since they heard the news. Now they have a plan and are ready to fight cancer again.

After finishing this semester of school, Cort and her mother, Julie, will go the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she will get radiation treatments 5 days a week for 6 weeks. Four weeks after the radiation is done, she will start 6 months of chemotherapy.

Clearly, this has been a stressful time for the family, but Cort is strong, resilient, determined, and extremely feisty. We have no doubt cancer will regret ever crossing paths with her.

Because of the treatments Cort has also decided to do egg retrieval since she is so young so she can still choose to have beautiful babies in the future.

As you can imagine her treatments, extended stay in Minnesota and the egg retrieval process will have a lot of out of pocket expenses.

Charity and I would like to ask our friends and family to pull together and help give a financial gift to help Cort and her family in this fight.
