Cimin Liang is has been a part of the Westside Family and Oregon Mens Gymnastics for over 20yrs. He was recently diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer and we are all heartbroken. Cimin is a dedicated coach, father and husband and I know he has touched the lives and hearts of many! I have had many people ask what they can do for the family, so I have put this together to allow people to contribute in a way that would be very helpful to the family. Please see below for a message from Cimin's son, Xiao, about his diagnosis and treatment information:
We’ve received word on Cimin’s official diagnosis for his S4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and are excited to report that his medical team at Kaiser have found a rare gene and protein in his body called “ALK” and “PD-L1” that qualify him for an effective targeted therapy (first-line treatment) and an Immunotherapy (second-line, if necessary).
This targeted therapy (called Alectinib) was approved late 2017 after phase III clinical trials and reports significantly higher efficacy compared to standard chemotherapy with fewer side effects, better long-term recovery, and higher cancer-remission rates. We could not be more excited to hear this news!
Cimin will still be receiving targeted radiation in a few cancer spots on his brain to stop short-term metastasis while his targeted therapy will fight the cancer in its entirety.
Cimin is incredibly appreciative of the love and support he’s received thus far from the westside gymnastics family and asks you continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he begins treatment this week.
