Many of you may or may not have heard Cierra Kovach started having neurological and flu-like symptoms on October 16th, 2022. Her parents, Pam and Joe Kovach did not waste any time and took her to The University of Washington, where she underwent many tests and was seen by multiple doctors. They immediately found a mass above her heart that triggered the autoimmune response called Myasthenia Gravis.
This process took well over a month before they could or would give a diagnosis. On December 5th, 2022, they confirmed any parent's worst nightmare Cierra has cancer. She was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin Lymphoma and a rare type of Lymphoma called Gray zone.
The oncologists are unsure of the exact treatment at this time. Cierra has had biopsies, spinal taps, bone marrow aspiration, Pet scans, and many more tests and procedures.
On Monday, the 19th, she will be heading into surgery to have a lymph node removed to give her the treatment plan for her type and stage of cancer. This will hopefully be the last step before her long journey of treatment begins.
Cierra is only 20 years old; before this, she worked, bought her first home and went to college full-time to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She is currently unable to work due to the effects the Cancer has on her body and the side effects of the medication she is taking to help with the symptoms.
Cierra is so young; she dreams of becoming a mother one day. The doctors have decided to do egg retrieval because her treatments could likely cause fertility issues in the future. No insurance will cover the cost of any of this. The procedure alone was 12,000, with another 1,500 for the medications. We can only imagine the financial strain and stress this puts on her and her entire family.
Cierra and her family appreciate all prayers, well wishes and donations beyond measure; those who know them know of the unimaginable losses they have already suffered. Please tag #TEAMCIE on all social media posts or contributions.
All donations will go toward medical bills, gas, lodging, food, etc. The Kovach's are a very giving family and have never turned down helping anyone in need. Now it's our turn as their family, friends, and community to support and give back to them and help them through this fight for #TEAMCIE.
We know some of you prefer to donate personally. Pam Kovach's Venmo is @Pamela-Kovach-1.
