Team Charli

Charli has been a Salem local since her adoption day! She was found in Tennessee in a dumpster with her siblings and was transferred to Northeast Animal Shelter in 2011, where I promptly adopted her when I was 19 years old. Now, Charli is 12 years old, and she's having some health problems. She is being treated by the best at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, and her neurologist is very optimistic about her recovery. However, this leaves her family financially strained. So, we're reaching out to the dog loving community and asking for anything you can give, no gift is too small, to help our baby girl. Team Charli!!

On August 29th, 2023, Charli suffered a major seizure around 3:30am and we rushed her to Blue Pearle in Waltham because MVRH was at capacity. She was treated and sent home on a seizure medication. A few hours after being home she suffered a short facial focal seizure, and we began the process of calling the hospital she was seen at and her regular veterinarian on what we should do. They advised taking her to MVRH through the ER and that they would call and have them ready for her. Between the time of her first facial focal seizure and getting her to the ER she had suffered through 7 more. We spent about 6 hours waiting on her treatments and consultations to be completed and ultimately opted to have her admitted to the hospital for monitoring and more tests. Amazingly every test came back normal, blood work, chest x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, it was all perfect. This left an MRI as the only diagnostic option and MVRH has one in their neurology department. Her scans showed minor bleeds that we were told was what is causing the short facial seizures and one big bleed which caused the major seizure the morning prior. Her neurologist told us this was the better side of what the scans could have shown, and she was optimistic about Charli's recovery. However, this meant either a 2 week stay in MVRH or me taking two weeks from work and staying home with her 24/7 as she has to be monitored for seizure activity and there is no way to know when or if they'll occur. We were sent home with her many medications for maintaining her and emergency kits for any major seizures she could have and the repeating words of her Neurologist that she is "optimistic".

Charli is my best friend in the entire world and has been for 12 years. The best I can give her is following the advice of the professionals and all the snuggles and snacks she wants, so that's what I'm going to do.

All donations are going directly to Charli's bills and lost wages to keep our home going.
