Team Carroll Strong

Life changed in an instant for the Carroll family in May 2019 when Matt suffered a sudden seizure. The next few months brought much uncertainty and eventually Matt was diagnosed with a terminal glioblastoma (fast growing brain tumor).  Over the next year and half, he fought valiantly, receiving treatment at the Stephen E. and Catherine Pappas Center for Neuro-Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital.  Although Matt initially responded well to treatment, his last MRI showed significant tumor progression with all treatment options exhausted. 

Matt displayed relentless commitment to his treatment.  He endured radiation, chemo, infusions, and injections with tenacity, courage, and his trademark sense of humor.  Matt's strong sense of duty to family has never wavered; he has continued working at his full time job throughout this trying time.  

Suzie, Michael (14), Alex (12), Charlotte (9), and Audrey (7) have been extraordinarily supportive to Matt through this battle.  Their love and care brought immeasurable joy during difficult moments in recent months.  Watching the boys play basketball and tennis and the girls dance  have been especially uplifting for this dedicated father.

Matt and Suzie were high school sweethearts at RMHS, where he was also an accomplished swimmer.  After marrying in 2005, Matt and Suzie came back to Reading and have been active members of the community ever since. In addition to being a successful professional, what is most notable about his work life is the commitment Matt shows to those alongside him.  Undoubtably, there will be be a tremendous void without his fun, loving, presence as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate, and colleague.  

Matt has been the primary breadwinner for Suzie and the kids throughout the last 15 years.  Our hope is that funds raised will be used to help cover long-term and educational expenses for Michael, Alex, Charlotte, and Audrey and to facilitate the transition back to full-time work for our dear friend Suzie.
