Support Our Karate Champions on Their Journey to the World Cup in Japan
Hello, my name is Shahrokh Hoghooghi, and I am the chief instructor of the Nuns’ Island-JKA (Japan Karate Association) Shotokan Karate Club. I am reaching out to our community and beyond to help support our incredible young athletes who have shown remarkable dedication, skill, and spirit.
Our dojo has had the honor of participating in two Canadian National tournaments—one in Toronto on November 25th, 2023, and the other in Montreal on May 19th, 2024. These competitions are more than just a test of skill; they serve as the gateway to the world stage. The top four competitors in each category earn the privilege of representing Canada at the World Cup in Gunma, Japan, at the Takasaki Arena from October 25th to 27th, 2024.
I am thrilled to share that eight of our students, ranging in age from 10 to 20 years, have qualified for the Canadian team. Out of these, six exceptional young athletes have been selected to compete in Japan. Their hard work and dedication have brought them this far, and now they stand on the brink of representing not only our dojo but our entire country on an international stage.
In addition to our students, I am honored to be representing Canada as an official referee at this prestigious event.
However, the journey to Japan comes with significant costs—travel, accommodation, training expenses, and more. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to cover these expenses and ensure our athletes can focus on what they do best: competing at the highest level.
Even if our athletes do not win or place in the top ranks, simply participating in the World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Competing on this stage in Japan, the birthplace of karate, will be an unforgettable experience that will inspire and enrich their lives, perhaps leading to even more opportunities in the future.
As a community, we have always supported one another, and now, I am kindly asking for your support to help our young karatekas achieve their dreams. Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference and is greatly appreciated. Together, we can help our champions reach Japan and bring back the pride of representing Canada on the world stage.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
