We would like to help them out in any way possible . They have a long road ahead of them . We are grateful for taking time to read and support and pray for them .
Here is how this nightmare started .
Caleb started with vomiting and stomach pains last Monday, Nov. 18th. She took him to his pediatrician later that day, just to make sure he didn't have strep but, was negative for strep and the doctor said that he has something viral and to just push fluids and rest. He ended up vomiting again later that night and Tuesday morning. After the last spell, he was back to his normal self and was eating and running around like he always did. However, another vomiting episode happened early Wednesday morning . Then again later that day. By evening he was mostly dry heaving. She knew that they were dealing with something more than the stomach bug, so she took him to Carroll County's ER Thursday morning. They were there for over 5 hours with no diagnoses, no IV or bloodwork. They said if he gets worse just bring him back. He then started complaining of his stomach hurting "really bad" and pointing to his bladder area. She thought maybe he had impacted poop or trapped gas. By early Friday morning, he was mostly in a fetal position and saying that it really hurt. He couldn't walk and could barely move. This time around she didn't play. She called the ambulance and had him transported to the ER, where he got his own room and was finally hooked up to an IV and had bloodwork and an ultrasound done. Ten hours later, her world shattered when the Dr. came in to tell her father and herself that she had bad news. The scans revealed a mass. She then said that they were transferring Caleb to the best Hospital to help him, Johns Hopkins. Not long after that, she went with Caleb while he was transported via ambulance. She had no idea what she was dealing with and was in total disbelief thinking maybe it was benign or not as bad as they thought. He was treated right away upon arrival, he had another scan and the doctors confirmed what was told by us at Carroll, there was a mass. They had a room available later that night on the oncology floor. That alone was enough to make you sick. Her Dad got to the Hospital early Saturday morning and stayed with her the majority of the day. In case anyone doesn't know, Caleb's father is not in the picture and it was nice to have her Dad with her so she wasn't alone. By that evening they had seen a slew of Oncologists, Urologists and Surgeons. They had told us that Caleb's kidneys were enlarged and he wasn't able to empty urine like he should. They suspected the mass was pushing up against his bladder, kidneys and bowels. They had a plan to surgically go in and put two tubes, one for each , kidney to drain them since he couldn't do it on his own. They had to do this before they could do the biopsy of the mass, which they said was large. They wanted to coordinate the two so, they scheduled it for Sunday, Nov. 24th. She was able to come in while he was being administered anesthesia and was able to kiss him goodbye once he fell asleep. Once he did and she had to say goodbye she lost it. She didn't know what was going to come from this. Surgeons took a biopsy of the mass and told her they would know something the following day but, it looked like a Lymphoma. Now she's waiting for the stage and type of cancer. They want to start chemotherapy and place a PICC line as soon as possible. Kristine is beside herself. How could she have an energetic, beautiful 4 year old with CANCER!!
We want to Thank you for all of your prayers , love and donations. Updates can be found at Caringbridge.org.
