Dear friends, family, and community members,

As Caroline wrote in her beautiful tribute, Brian “fell asleep in the Lord” on April 13, 2026, after a long and devastating illness. For nearly three years, Brian lived with the effects of multiple strokes following an aortic dissection that left him paralyzed, enduring repeated hospitalizations and profound losses with ‘grace and honesty.’ He was a beloved husband to Caroline and devoted father to Alex and Ama, as well as a gifted audio engineer at National Public Radio and longtime technical director of Morning Edition. Even as his world narrowed, his love for music, storytelling, and his family never wavered.

Those who know Caroline know how fiercely she has carried her family through these years—emotionally, physically, and financially. Now, in the wake of Brian’s passing, we are coming together again to support her and the children as they navigate this next chapter. As Caroline wrote, Brian was someone who chose to “wash the dishes”—to show up in the quiet, daily acts of love and responsibility that hold a life together.
