Over the last few months, our family has been navigating an incredibly difficult stretch of health issues. Now, we are facing something none of us ever imagined: our magical 8-year-old nephew, Arlo, has a brain tumor.

It started with seizures that became increasingly frequent and severe. An MRI revealed the tumor, and Arlo will soon be hospitalized again for additional testing before undergoing surgery to remove it. His recovery is expected to take at least 4–6 weeks and will require significant care at home.

Arlo is kind, funny, creative, and loves to play games. He is deeply loved by his family and friends, and it is incredibly difficult to see him facing something this serious when he should be spending his days playing, laughing, and just being a kid. He is such a special little guy, and we would do anything to take this away from him.

While our focus is on getting Arlo through surgery and on the road to recovery, we also know this comes with a financial burden that is simply overwhelming for any family to face. His hospitalization and surgery are currently estimated to leave the family with $15,000–$20,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses. Zach and Hannah will also need to take time away from work to care for Arlo, along with the many unexpected expenses that may arise along the way.

Zach and Hannah are truly two of the best humans (and I don’t say that just because they are family.) They are incredible and are always the ones helping everyone else. They are the first to show up, the first to offer a hand, and the last people who would ever ask for help themselves. They have built a beautiful family with Arlo and his sister, Fynn, and are deeply loved by so many people.

Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.

Our hope is that this fundraiser can ease even a small part of the financial burden, giving Zach and Hannah a little more room to focus on Arlo and everything he needs in the weeks and months ahead.
