Please help. 2022 was a very rough year for my dad. In December of 2021, he had a work injury that required emergency surgery which then led to him becoming septic. He was off of work for 12 weeks from January through April of 2022. He started a new job in April that could accommodate his new limitations. His knee and health never returned to his pre injury state but he worked as much as possible to continue to support our family and take care of my mom and sisters who have their own medical issues. Then, as if the knee and sepsis wasn’t enough, on December 6, while at work my dad started experiencing chest pains. He was rushed to the hospital where they did an X-ray and found that for some reason his left lung collapsed. He was transferred to another hospital that could manage his life threatening condition. Once at that hospital, my dads blood pressure dropped drastically and they needed to take him in to surgery to put a chest tube in to inflate his lung. Once in the operating room, they found his chest was filling with blood and he was unable to maintain his own circulatory regulation- his heart and lungs stopped and we almost lost him! They needed to transfer him to St Vincent’s but unfortunately he was too unstable. He needed surgery right away and could not wait so they flew the drs to him. The drs worked tirelessly to remove the damaged lung and to stop the bleeding from his heart. After several hours, my dad was moved to the icu where he remained until he was stable enough to return home. He is still on oxygen and will remain on oxygen until he is able to keep his blood oxygen levels up. His current prognosis is still unknown but we do know that he does have pleura adhesions and that is what caused this. Now we need to figure out why he has them. He has a long road ahead of him! My dad has always been amazing making sure we have everything we need and is always the first to volunteer to help someone. Now he is the one who needs help. With him being the sole supporter of our family and being out of work multiple times this year, my family is struggling to pay monthly bills and for medical treatment for everyone.
