Andy is undergoing a difficult time right now as he deals with liver cancer treatment. In his own words...

As most of you know by now I have liver cancer and for those that don't know, I have liver cancer. It has been a journey of hospital stays, test after test after test and being inserted into large powerful, noisy machines for extend periods. I've still more to go and afterwards, I am sure. My doctors are saying that removal of the mass is best and they will be examining me elsewhere in my body to discover its origin or if it is isolated to the area of initial discovery. Either way, it ain't over yet.

Through all of this initial discovery and progressive analysis, I have been showered with the kindness, love, and generosity of family and friends. I have heard from people I have not heard from in a long time and that has been a great comfort, too. Everybody has offered to help in a variety of ways, cooking, cleaning, errand running, and transportation to appointments, etc., of which are fine expressions of their concern. I am humbled by all of it.

This has been a year of uncertainty for me, now I have this to contend with and although I am confident in my doctors' knowledge and skills, I still remain at the mercy of the unknown. Because of the pain inflicted by this mass, I am taking medication to alleviate it and, as with all things pharmaceutical, there is an adjustment period with the side effects.  It is recommended that I not operate machinery or vehicles while taking this medication. As you all know, machinery, power tools, hand tools, and vehicle operation are the cornerstone of my vocation, so I am unable to work while under its influence which fluctuates day to day. I'm not sure how I will be physically or mentally when I wake each day, so far it has been relatively consistent. So far, I've had my good days and bad days, too.

I am without income right now and that is where I am hoping this GoFundMe account will help me meet my financial obligations. I have applied for SSI and SDI, got forbearance on my student loan and have
applied for the same with my mortgage. I have the expense of getting to and from my appointments which are in Martinez, Sacramento, and San Francisco as these are where the VA hospitals are located. I have utilities, food, and a copay to meet, too. My little empire costs about $3500 a month to operate which I meet most of the time though some is carried over.

So that is my story and I am hoping that my need can be met by those who receive this.

Ever and always yours,

Andy

Addendum from the Organizers:

We anticipate that Andy's recovery will be anywhere from 4 to 6 months. The campaign goal is $3500 per month. If recovery is either shorter or longer, we'll definitely let you know!

Should we have the good fortune to receive more funds than required, Andy would like to donate the balance to the VA hospital system. Since all operating expenses are paid by the DoD (US Gov), 100% of donations go to support programs at the hospitals. When we pick one, we'll let you know that, too.

Thank you for considering contributing to this GoFundMe to keep Andy on his feet and in his home. Please know that anything you give is greatly appreciated and most very welcome.
