I have a tremendous opportunity to teach English Studies in Lashio, Myanmar. That's a small town in the north of the country at about 3000 ft. The 4th Term of the year is what I have been offered which begins so soon! The school is a community-owned non- profit Australian program that can be found at https://www.developed.org.au.
I need to be in the capital of Yangon by the 24th of October and then catch a bus to Lashio for the semester to begin on October 29th. If all goes well, I'd like to continue until, at least, my visa expires after 7 months.
I have spent the last two years living mostly in Puerto Rico and having seen the devastation from Hurricane Maria, and the amazing resilience that the country has demonstrated in trying to recover. I now feel that I am ready for a completely new experience to help in this world and immerse myself in a culture so different from my own.
I'm 58 years young, father of wonderful 29-year-old twin daughters, who have given me their blessings for this trip. I love all people and want to make a difference, especially with children.
My room and board are paid for by the school and a small stipend will be my monetary compensation. That is certainly not my impetus to make this trip. I want to experience all that I can and educate and inspire pupils to get out and see the world as I have been lucky enough to.
Myanmar is coming out of a very secluded and isolated past. Changes are now coming fast and furious as is the case with much of Southeast Asia.
What I humbly seek, with your help, would be funding for airfare and travel expenses for (hopefully) a 7-month journey to teach. Thank you!
Please know that even 1 dollar will push me forward. Thank you!
