Teachers Displaced by Landlord Negligence

Donation protected
We are two teachers that have been displaced from our home due to negligence from our apartments maintenance. Sunday, July 30th our entire roof for our bedroom caved in. Luckily there where no physical injuries, as the plates from the roof where extremely heavy and could have killed either of us had we been sleeping on our bed. More below:

Sunday, July 30th, My partner Wendy, and I arrived at our apartment around 9pm after running some errands. When we arrived we noticed something wasn’t right, as our entire floor of our bedroom was covered in filth noticeable from the front door upon entering. After further inspection we recognized our whole bedroom roof had caved in. Plates of the roof where scattered around the room, which had destroyed belongings, and
covered our living space in holes, dirt, filth, and grime. The space was uninhabitable. It was beginning to rain and water was starting to drip into our bedroom. Our first instinct was to make sure our two cats where okay (thankfully they where, and where hid under our couch), our next instinct was to get in touch with our landlord.

After numerous attempts of calling, the only avenue of communication we could make contact with was our property management companies overnight maintenance man. Unfortunately he was no help at all, and just offered to clean the disaster that was in our room.

This situation is unfolding in real time right now, And I will update regularly, but unfortunately it has already set us back a few hundred dollars, and seems it is only going to continue to set us backwards financially

Financially this is what has unfolded so far:

It is the first week of school and we both have spent copious amounts of money on school supplies already, in preparation for the new school year. half of the school supplies I bought where sitting underneath my desk; which was toppled with filth, and remnants of our roof, now totally ruined because of this disaster.

I also had paid my rent for this month, and regret this as having known this circumstance I would have pocketed that money for a hotel.

Furthermore in terms of immediate expenses clothes of ours have been ruined, our cats food bowls have been destroyed, and our mattress, sheets, and bedding are all covered in filth.

Finally we are being strong armed into hotel/couch surfing, with our two cats. This within itself accumulates unnecessary expenses like eating out, gas, and wear and tear on our vehicles.

As the situation progresses and I find out if our landlord is willing to do right by us, I will update and adjust the necessary amount of this Gofund me. Until then I am setting this goal at 1.5k as our mattress, bedding, and school supplies alone amount to that total.

We are in contact with several assistance agencies but are in need of immediate assistance as we’re not sure, nor prepared for what comes next. Whether or not we’re going to have to find a new apartment, come up with a security deposit, and gather any other fees that may come with that burden.
