MPLS Teachers & Students During COVID & Protests
Donation protected
*Update 5/29:
Even as I write this, I know there are no right words for me to say. To think. To feel.
George Floyd was murdered by the Minneapolis Police Department and our city is mourning. Mourning his death, the death of countless others that have gone before him, and the institutionalized racism this community faces each and every day. The Minneapolis community is working to keep students and their families safe during this time. I am in awe of people coming together to protest, clean streets, donate to food banks and local non-profits. There is another group of individuals this fundraiser is intended to highlight: Teachers.
Teachers are noting which of their students 1) have lost access to a transportation line, 2) have lost access to grocery stores, and 3) are still without power, and they are doing everything they can to support their students at this time. If you are willing to donate money to the creation of grocery kits for families, please do so. The money will be used to put together kits and deliver them to families, work teachers in our city have already begun. This will only add to the projects and systems they have set-up to meet the needs of their students.

In the last two months, I have seen our teachers do incredible things. I've watched a teacher jump in her car to send students books and stickers, listened in as a teacher coached a mom through a new online learning platform, and read e-mails from teachers sent in the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning asking for resources and ideas. This time is not easy. Let's come together and raise funds for teachers to ease their burden. This campaign will try to provide as many teachers as possible with funds for groceries and other necessities during our COVID-19 closure.
