Teacher's Pet is a group of American School of Doha teachers who recognized that in our Al Messila neighborhood we have a big issue with homeless cats and dogs. We noticed that a number of the animals that we find have been dumped by their previous owners.
Our Teacher's Pet group wants to focus on TNR (Trap Neuter Release), however, this is difficult when these animals could make a very good pet for a family.
In the last five months we acquired 9 kittens, three adult dogs (Dobby, Sir Arthur, and Velcro), three puppies (Buddy, P!nk, and Ahndie), and one younger dog (Halu). Because of the generosity of a number of people through fostering and fundraising we have been able to reimburse foster homes and apply fundraised monies to vaccinations. We also have a dog trap on it’s way so we can humanely trap large and small breed dogs who are injured or are scared to come near. The mother of the puppies, Buddy and P!nk, is still out there with a broken leg and refuses to come near us, even with food. We are nearly out of the funds as vet care and pet food adds up.
Since fundraising, a small handful of us have been using our own personal funds to help these dogs, but this is not sustainable.
We estimate each animal will require on average $500. Even if we are able to raise half of our goal, we will be able to give each foster a good start.
I know many of you have a heart for animals but are not always able to be on the ground, so if you feel moved to be part of the animal rescue attempts of these 16 lovelies, we are welcoming any donations of any amount. Please know that we used 100% of all funds raised go to these animals’ welfare. Being that we are using GoFundMe in hopes to collect funds, please know that 2.9% of donations is for the use of the website. If you want to ensure 100% of your donation goes to the rescue work, please feel free to give your donation directly to Meika Weiner, Kari Robertson, Leah Bramley, Alli Farmer, Daniele Smurthwaite or me.
