Teacher training for the Cambodian countryside
Donation protected
Dear reader and donor,
First, we would like to thank you for taking the time to read this. It means a lot to us and our project to develop English and teaching skills in the Cambodian countryside.
My friend Anna and I came to Kampot, Cambodia, seven weeks ago and have since visited many different schools and classes around the countryside. We have met many school children, teachers, principals and staff, and we have seen firsthand a school system with many problems. It’s a system that does not prepare its students enough for the future for many different reasons. One major issue is poor education in English. Learning English is crucial for these students since it is a large part of their way to further education, more secure jobs and a way out of poverty. However, many schools do not prioritize the English language, partly because of a lack of well-educated teachers. Many teachers struggle with fluency and pronunciation and do not possess the necessary pedagogical tools.
There are a few ways to get to the root of this issue, and we believe that teachers play a huge role in the student's learning process. If we can help the teachers, we hope to reach as many students as possible in the long run. We have, together with our friend Dararoth Ke, come up with a project we call “Teacher training for the Cambodian countryside,” in which we will gather teachers from the villages and help them practice English during a two-day course. The main goal is to improve fluency when speaking, pronunciation, and teaching techniques and encourage teachers to involve their students more. After two days, we will follow up with more training, evaluate the project and hopefully see improvement.
To make this work, we need money for educational materials, food and transportation for the participants. Know that every donation counts! You can make a difference, even by donating small amounts. We want to thank you all again.
Sincerely,
Karin
