Teacher Suffers Broken Neck in Head on Collision
Donation protected
On the afternoon of Friday Jan. 3rd my mother-in-law Donna and her daughter, Katie, were returning home from dropping off her mother when they were struck head on by a drunk driver.
Donna and Katie were taken to the emergency room via ambulance. Fortunately Katie was treated for her injuries and discharged from the emergency room. However, Donna is in much more serious condition. She has suffered a severe fracture to her neck and has been transferred to the ICU.
The doctors managing her care estimate her initial recovery to be several months long if all goes well. That will be just the first step in what is expected to be a very long healing process.
After he was arrested we learned that the driver of the other vehicle is uninsured, does not hold a valid license and was fleeing the scene of another he had caused when he drove head on into Donna and Katie, setting their vehicle on fire.
Donna would be spending this time preparing to send Katie off to college this fall. Instead she is preparing for how her life will change because of this accident.
Donna is an elementary school teacher. It is unknown when she will be able to return to work. She is not the kind of person to ask for help and so I have taken it upon myself to ask on her behalf.
It is a miracle that she survived. My hope is for Donna to be able to focus on her recovery without the stress and distraction caused by her and Katie’s medical expenses as well as the cost of replacing her vehicle.
