Teacher Kristen Kicks Cancer

Donation protected
In December 2021, Kristen Rigney received a serious and unfortunate diagnosis: Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (the most common form of breast cancer).

Teacher Kristen, as she is known in our family, is an integral member of our school and community. She teaches toddlers (ages 1.5 to 2.5) at our son’s school, and many of the preschoolers began their learning journey with Teacher Kristen as toddlers too. She is a guiding light, not only to this dynamic group of children in their most formative years, but also to the teachers and families. She provides a strong foundation for joyful learning, a safe and stable environment during the ongoing pandemic, and uplifting energy to every student and person she encounters.

Remarkably, in the entire time we have known Teacher Kristen, our interactions have been behind masks, yet her smile is ever-present and infectious. We know we are not alone. In addition to our school, Kristen has done volunteer work with youth in Cambodia and South Africa. Her love of teaching and inspiring young people is widely felt.

Kristen is beginning this healing journey with the support of friends, family, and her fiancé. While her prospects for recovery are good, cancer sucks. There is a long road ahead. Over the next 5-6 months, she will undergo surgery, chemo, and radiation. This fight is going to require energy, strength, faith, and community.

We know there are so many people who want to help. We are calling on Kristen’s friends, family, and community to show up for her now and in the months ahead. We created this page to help ease the burden of medical bills and other expenses. Please feel free to use this space to share your own stories about Kristen and anything that inspires strength, smiles, laughter, and hope.

In her own words:

Love on your people. Don’t leave things unsaid. You never know what they’re going through or how much time any of us have. There’s no point in holding grudges; we’re all ultimately seeking the same things in the best ways we know how to. I’ve never been more aware of how fleeting life is and how crucial it is to savor the moment. The sensation of the sun’s rays dancing across my face on a chilly day has never felt so divine as it does now that I have this even more profound understanding that none of this is promised. Please send me lots of prayers, positive vibes, strength, and love my way as I continue down this road to recovery. Love to all.
