Dear Friends,
We’re reaching out to you to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help Alicia Manuel, a dedicated mother, daughter, teacher and friend and we need your help!
Alicia is a devoted teacher who has spent the past 20 years of her life educating young men at one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most prestigious colleges. Alicia has found her calling as a teacher and has contributed to the positive transformation and development of the lives of many of her students. In her words, “teaching is a profession that is integral and paramount in the formation of an individual and by extension is the foundation for a country’s economic growth and development.” Alicia’s students, who she fondly calls her boys, are a constant source of joy, knowledge and inspiration to her.
Alicia has dedicated most of her professional life to the upliftment of others, and as fate would have it, she now requires upliftment from all of us. Alicia has quietly battled a chronic autoimmune condition of the liver for the past 15 years. Alicia has endured many ups and downs during this period but has never been a person to complain. The effects of this illness are devastating for Alicia and her family. On countless occasions Alicia has showed up teach her students while suffering from the effects of her illness; exhaustion, dizziness, and nausea, without a hint to her students that she was seriously ill. Alicia fought in silence and remained positive but was always cognizant of the fact that each class she taught could be her last.
Alicia’s condition has deteriorated suddenly and rapidly and may now be terminal, if she does not receive our generous support. Alicia’s doctors have now advised that she is in need of immediate liver transplantation. Alicia has consulted experts at the Liver Transplant Unit of the University of Toronto who are ready to render the lifesaving treatment she needs but as you would imagine, it is extremely costly.
Alicia has approached her insurers to determine the extent of her coverage and the outcome has not been positive. She has applied all of her life savings to this cause, mortgaged her home and has sought donations from friends and family. Alicia is grateful for the generosity extended to her so far but she has not yet been able to raise the funds required.
We can’t cure Alicia, but we can help ease the financial burden and resultant stress that Alicia and her family are facing. The best estimate of the costs Alicia will need to cover is in the region of $200,000CAD. Our goal is to raise the entire $200,000CAD required to cover Alicia’s expenses.
We are humbly asking that you consider making as generous a donation as you can today, or pledging to do so in the coming weeks toward our target and to share Alicia’s GoFundMe campaign with as many friends as you can.
We thank you for your support and generosity as we work towards saving the life of an individual who has made a tremendous contribution to our community and to the lives of so many!
Kind Regards
