Joseph Cheffo was an active, healthy and athletic member of the community. He was a teacher, a businessman and had a passion for fitness.

In early 2023, he went to the doctor for an infection and was prescribed Levaquin, a class of antibacterial drugs. Joe was unaware of the devastating risk of developing Fluoroquinolone toxicity with these drugs. This antibiotic comes with a black box warning from the FDA that ‘these antibiotics may cause potentially permanent damage to muscles, tendons, joints, nerves and the central nervous system’. Like most patients, Joseph wasn’t aware of what a black box warning is. His doctors or pharmacists never warned him that this drug has the highest warning possible by the FDA. The infection he went to the dr for was unconfirmed and the medication dispensed with no further discussion.

He has been bed bound, and in a wheel chair for one year suffering daily from chronic fatigue syndrome and constant pain from ruptured tendons. A very large percent of his mitochondria has been destroyed and unfortunately, reversing the effects of this disease is either poorly understood by doctors or not possible.

Joe has lost all hope waiting for these symptoms to pass when they only get worse. He has been unable to work and has spent his savings on caretakers and fighting for his health back. The clinic has treated other patients that have taken these antibiotics that altered their genes, and caused ongoing mutations with damage. Please help us get to California for treatment. We just want the suffering to stop and get some of his quality of life back.
