Mit einem Teil der Spenden konnten wir bereits neue Materialen für den Hausbau kaufen. Auf der Baustelle hat sich in den letzten Wochen ebenfalls einiges getan. Ausserdem konnten die lokalen Bauarbeiter, ohne welche die Bauarbeiten nicht funktionieren würden, mit Hilfe unserer Spende entlöhnt werden.

Das Spendenziel ist schon bald erreicht. Nochmals ein grosses Dankeschön dafür! Trotzdem freuen wir uns immer noch über jede einzelne Spende.

We have already been able to use some of the donations to buy new materials for the construction of the house. There has also been a lot of activity on the construction site over the past few weeks. In addition, the local workers, without whom the construction would not be possible, have been paid with the help of our donation.

VORSTELLUNG/INTRODUCTION:

Hallo, mein Name ist Désirée und ich bin momentan als Freiwillige in Busua, Ghana bei der Organisation «Teach on the Beach». Busua ist ein Fischerdorf an der Küste der Western Region in Ghana, das von etwa 5000 Einwohnerinnen und Einwohnern bewohnt wird. Viele Familien können sich die Schulbildung ihrer Kinder nicht leisten und es fehlt oft an den finanziellen Mitteln für Schulmaterialien und Schuluniformen. "Teach on the Beach" bemüht sich, diese Familien zu unterstützen, indem sie Schulbücher, Stifte, Rucksäcke, Schuluniformen und mehr zur Verfügung stellen. Täglich nehmen ausserdem rund 100 Kinder an einem "after school program" teil, bei dem sie gemeinsam Hausaufgaben erledigen, Spiele spielen, Workshops zu wichtigen Themen besuchen und vieles mehr. Zusätzlich zu diesem Nachmittagsangebot wird von Montag bis Freitag ein "news hour program" angeboten, bei welchem ältere Schülerinnen und Schüler gemeinsam mit den Mitarbeitenden weltweite Nachrichten verfolgen und im Anschluss darüber diskutieren.

Das Bildungszentrum, das momentan von "Teach on the Beach" betrieben wird, ist gemietet, was bedeutet, dass jedes Jahr sehr hohe Mietkosten anfallen, welche TOB auf die Länge nicht mehr decken kann. Deshalb wird nun daran gearbeitet, einen neuen Standort aufzubauen. Das Gebäude, in welchem zukünftig unterrichtet werden soll, ist schon praktisch fertiggestellt. Nun sind wir daran das künftige Wohnhaus für die TOB-Mitarbeitenden zu bauen. Auch dieser Bau benötigt jedoch wieder viele Materialien und finanzielle Mittel.

Aufgrund dessen wäre dir das gesamte Team von "Teach on the Beach" unendlich dankbar, wenn du uns bei der Finanzierung und dem Fortsetzen dieses Projekts unterstützen könntest. Ich persönlich konnte mir in den letzten zwei Wochen schon einen guten Eindruck über TOB verschaffen und bin begeistert von ihrer Arbeit. Das ganze Team von TOB wurde zu einer Familie, in welcher auch alle Freiwilligen sofort herzlich aufgenommen werden. Dies merkt man auch daran, dass Kinder im ganzen Dorf liebend gerne in die abwechslungsreichen Programme kommen und sich bei TOB gut aufgehoben fühlen. Die Kinder wie auch das gesamte TOB-Team sind mir kurzer Zeit bereits ans Herz gewachsen.

Hello, my name is Désirée and I am currently volunteering in Busua, Ghana with the organisation "Teach on the Beach". Busua is a fishing village on the coast of the Western Region in Ghana, which is inhabited by around 5000 people. Many families are struggling financially with sending their children to school and often lack the financial means to buy school materials and uniforms. "Teach on the Beach" endeavours to support these families by providing school books, pens, rucksacks, school uniforms and more. Every day, around 100 children also take part in an after-school programme, where they do homework together, play games, attend workshops on important topics and much more. In addition to this after-school programme, a "news hour programme" is offered from Monday to Friday, in which older pupils follow global news together with the staff, volunteers and discuss it afterwards.

The education centre currently run by "Teach on the Beach" is rented, which means that very high rental costs are incurred every year, which TOB can no longer cover in the long term. For this reason, TOB is building a new location. The building in which teaching will take place in the future has already been practically completed. We are now in the process of building the future residential building for students, volunteers and TOB employees. However, this construction also requires a lot of materials and financial resources.

Personally, I have already gained a good impression of TOB in the last two weeks and am enthusiastic about their work. The whole TOB team has become a family, and all volunteers are immediately made to feel welcome. You can also see that from the fact that children throughout the village love coming to the varied programmes and feel that they are in good hands at TOB. The children, as well as the entire TOB team, have quickly grown close to my heart.
