Many Sudanese people were forced to flee their country due to the ongoing civil war which started in 2023. People from the Nuba Mountains constitute a particularly vulnerable community. Many Nuba people had already been displaced to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, before the current war broke out, and they have now been displaced again to Cairo, Egypt.
The Nuba people in Cairo are struggling to maintain their community’s cohesiveness and well-being, particularly keeping their languages and cultures alive, and they are concerned about the education of their youth.
We are seeking funds to help support their efforts at language preservation and education. Funds will be used to print teaching materials in their languages and to rent spaces that will be used to teach language and literacy, as well as to serve as community centers to bring people together.
The Moro and Tira communities will be the focus of the fundraising effort. They are led by two church leaders, Reverend Angelo Naser (Moro) and Rt. Reverend Dr. Fajak Avajani (Tira), both of whom worked for many years to translate the Bible into their languages and spearheaded efforts to teach their languages in Sudan.
We know the two community leaders and guarantee that all funds will be transferred, and we will cover the cost of transfer fees.
