Hi!
My name is Moritz and I’ve been working with tea for the last 15 years. I studied Chinese language and culture and ended up becoming good friends with some of the most exciting tea producers in the country. I ran @riversandclouds , a tea shop in my German hometown of Lübeck selling some of the highest quality tea in the world, poured tea for state leaders in Davos and spent twelve tea picking seasons in the mountains of Sichuan and Yunnan.
Last year I brought a good friend, documentary filmmaker with 25 years of experience, to two of my favourite tea producers in Sichuan and Yunnan province and we started capturing their stories and material from these regions deep within the mountains that are the original home of the tea plant.
A year with many unexpected shifts and turns later, I am ready to finally put my undivided focus on this. We bought professional cinema camera equipment, developed the idea of building a digital platform to help the most beautiful curated assortment of regenerative tea farm projects to sell their products directly to selected tea shops, small brands, gastronomy, tea ceremony masters and connoisseurs and are now ready to go back into the field for the next part of filming, on the list are a project protecting an old forest and picking from wild grown tea trees in Sichuan, tea pottery masters in the old porcelain town of Jingdezhen and an incense maker with a beautiful story.
For further travels we are always looking for interesting people and places to portrait, on the list of potential topics are already tea producers in Taiwan, Japan, Korma, Laos, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Kenia, the Azores as well as tea houses around East Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, tea collectors, potters and many others.
On the way i will host tea ceremonies, wherever i can in cooperation with local and travelling artists of all kinds, chefs and teachers of subjects that interest us, and connect with places and people in China and and other places all along the lines of tea growing, processing, storing and consuming places in the world, building a network of places and people we like and trust to work with spreading this medicine.
The money will be used to cover our travel costs, pay the videographer and editor and build our digital platform.
I am happy to invite all our sponsors to join any ceremonies we might host near you, am willing to travel to places along my way wherever invited and am glad to share tea and stories with all of you, and will on the future also host travels where people may join me on the journey.
Let’s together to meet the people behind tea, and spread and revisit historical and mythical stories about the plant that fuelled Buddhism and Daoism on their rise, deeply influenced global politics and makes most people in the world feel a little more at home.
Cheers,
Moritz
