On July 5th, our dad, Joaquin Guardado, began having trouble breathing. He believed he contracted COVID 19 and confirmed these suspicions after three tests (two of which had false-negative results that aggravated our medical response time).

In addition to being unable to breathe, my dad had headaches and severe fatigue, but he did not register a fever. My father decided to revisit the clinic, where doctors confirmed his fear and told him to go to the ER.

David drove him to the hospital and dropped him off at the door. He was not allowed to go inside with him due to precautions surrounding COVID. In his mind, he was sure he would be able to pick up dad from the hospital later that day, but that was not the case.

Our father remained in the COVID wing of Viera Hospital for a month and ten days, fighting for his life. Twice during his time spent there, the doctors believed he was not going to make it out alive with a prognosticate of survival at five percent.

During his stay, our friends and family, who were made aware of my father's sickness, prayed hard, and my father fought even harder. After a month, the doctors came back with the best news our mom and us could hope to receive, and that was that Pops was no longer displaying COVID symptoms. Prayers answered. Thank you, God.

Ten days later, our father left Viera, but the lung damage caused by this disease did not allow him to stay home for long. Shortly after, he arrived at the Honduras Medical Center, where he remains under close watch by the best medical professionals in the region.

This experience has been hard on all of us. The ups and downs this disease cause health-wise on its victims are draining. This up-and-down fatigue is also felt by family members and friends who suffer from a distance with little to no communication. COVID19 is emotionally devastating, and its treatment in a third world country causes financial hardship.

We are blessed to have friends and family step forward and help throughout several different points of my father's disease. Now we are turning to you. Can you help? Any-and-all contributions and social media shares will go a long way.

El 5 de julio, nuestro papá, José Joaquín Guardado, comenzó a tener problemas respiratorios. Además de no poder respirar, sufría de fuerte dolores de cabeza y mucha fatiga, pero nunca de fiebre. Creyó haber contraído COVID 19 y se hizo tres pruebas—dos que regresaron falso negativo—y la tercera que confirmó su enfermedad. La clínica médica, "Por Salud," le aconsejó que fuera de inmediato al hospital.

David Alejandro llevó a papá y lo dejó ahí. Por supuesto que no se le permitió entrar por las medidas de precaución COVID, pero por un instante él pensó que esto solo sería una falsa alarma y que tal vez ese mismo día nos lo regresaban. Nuestro papá permaneció en el ala COVID del Hospital Viera durante un mes y diez días. Hubo dos veces que los médicos pensaron que papá no saldría con su vida (su pronóstico era menor del cinco por ciento).

Nuestros amigos y familiares, que conocían de la enfermedad de papá, oraron por un milagro. Después de un mes, los médicos nos comunicaron que papá ya no mostraba síntomas de COVID. Gracias a Dios nuestro papá sigue vivo.

Diez días después, a mi papá lo dieron de alta del Hospital Viera, pero el daño pulmonar causado por esta enfermedad no le permitió quedarse en casa por mucho tiempo. Dos días después fue internado en el Honduras Medical Center, donde hasta el día de hoy permanece bajo la vigilancia de los mejores profesionales médicos de la región.

Esto no ha sido fácil. Los altos y bajos físicos que causa esta enfermedad en la salud de sus víctimas son fatigadores. Nosotros solo observamos desde la distancia, en varias ocasiones con muy poca o ninguna comunicación. COVID 19 es una enfermedad devastadora y su tratamiento en un país tercermundista es aún más difícil en términos financieros.

Hasta este momento, hemos tenido la bendición de poder contar con el apoyo monetario de familiares, al igual que de amistades cercanas. Ahora nos dirigimos a ustedes. ¿Nos pueden ayudar?
