Hello, my name is Nola. I’m 64, and my husband Wayne is 77. We live on Vancouver Island in a 2010 RV with our three beloved cats. It’s our only home—but it’s no longer safe, dry, or warm.
Wayne lives with severe PTSD and cancer, as well as mobility issues. I struggle with mobility and depression.
Our RV is dark inside, with very little natural light. It’s cramped, with almost no storage, and the slide-out—the only space where we used to sit together—is rotting in one corner and unsafe. We’ve tried patching it with contractor tape, but the corner where the mould is is on the verge of collapsing, and the cold is creeping in.
Because of the damage, I’m confined to the bedroom—there’s nowhere else to sit. We had to take out all the carpet, couch, and dinette. Wayne works from a small table tucked under one of the bunks, which is hard on his back and barely functional. We’re living in tight quarters, and it’s affecting our health and mental well-being.
We’re seniors on tight pensions. We’ve asked for help with repairs, but the one person who offered to assist for free is no longer available. With winter approaching, we’re desperate.
Our dream is to replace this RV with a newer 5th wheel, a brighter one. Something with more light, more space, and better insulation. A place where we can sit together, store our essentials, and give our cats a cozy corner of their own. We’re not asking for luxury—just a safe, dry, dignified space to live.
If you’re wondering what that might cost, we’ve put together a simple budget below. Even a small donation or a share could help us take a step toward safety and comfort.
Estimated Budget for a Safer, Brighter RV
Item Estimated Cost (CAD)
Used RV (newer model, better layout)
$25,000–$35,000
Ideally, 2015 or newer, with better insulation, natural light, and safe flooring
Inspection & registration fees
$500–$1,000
To ensure the RV is road-safe and legally transferred
Moving & setup costs
$500–$1,000
Transporting the RV and setting it up safely
Emergency cushion
$1,000
For unexpected costs or health-related needs
Total Goal: $27,000–$38,000 CAD
We’ll include photos of our current RV and what we hope to find—something simple, functional, and warm.
Whether it’s help toward a replacement RV or simply spreading the word, we’re deeply grateful for any support.
Thank you for reading our story.
With love and hope,
Nola & Wayne❤️
